Technical IT Apprenticeships

Our Technical IT Apprenticeships are ideal for organisations that need people with practical IT skills to be able to install, maintain and manage IT systems. They cover job roles such as IT Helpdesk, 1st & 2nd Line IT Support, IT Technician right through to Network Engineer, System Administrator and IT Manager roles.

Whether your organisation needs people who can manage cloud services or install and set-up PCs, our training will provide your apprentices with the skills and development they need to excel in their role with you.

We provide Technical IT Apprenticeships at Level 3 and Level 4, which are suitable for your new hires or to upskill your existing staff. We currently offer the approved apprenticeship standards listed below which encompass a range of skills and competencies:

IT Solutions Technician – Level 3 Apprenticeship

Indicative Content (will vary dependent on an individual‘s agreed programme)

The Level 3 IT Solutions Technician programme is designed to provide the knowledge and skills to develop, implement and maintain complete IT solutions, including their hardware infrastructure.

IT Solutions Technicians apply a professional methodology or framework to gather and analyse the requirements in order to design, develop, test and implement the most appropriate IT solutions.

Pathway Specific Modules

This programme offers two pathways that provide the underpinning knowledge and skills in either a Hardware Solutions role or a Software Solutions role.

Information Communications Technician – Level 3 Apprenticeship

Indicative Content (will vary dependent on an individual‘s agreed programme)

The Information Communications Technician occupation delivers efficient operation and control of the IT and/or Telecommunications infrastructure within a business.

The core duties of this role involve:

  • Providing technical support to customers both internal and external through a range of communication channels
  • Establishing and diagnosing ICT problems/faults using the required troubleshooting methodology and tools
  • Applying appropriate testing methodologies and processes to resolve ICT technical issues
  • Installing and configuring software and hardware

There are two pathways on this apprenticeship, Network Technician or Support Technician. The pathway you will take will be dependant on the job role.

Programme Structure

Modules

These modules will be completed by all apprentices on the Information Communications Technician Apprenticeship:

There are 2 pathway options within this standard, Network Technician or Support Technician. The Modules will remain the same for both pathways, however the following duties will need to be carried out within your job role:

Network Technician

  • Complete cabling tasks for example coaxial, copper, fibre or remotely
  • Administer mobile devices on a network
  • Deliver network tasks prioritising security with a view to mitigating and defending against security risks.

Support Technician

  • Address IT issues by prioritising in response to customer service level agreements
  • Support the roll out of upgrades or new systems or applications
  • Administer security access requirements and permissions for stakeholders escalating as necessary for example password resets

Network Engineer – Level 4 Apprenticeship

Indicative Content (will vary dependent on an individual‘s agreed programme)

The primary role of a Network Engineer is to design, install, maintain and support communication networks. Network Engineers need to maintain high levels of operation of communication networks in order to provide maximum performance and availability for their users, such as staff, clients, customers and suppliers. They will understand network configuration, cloud, network administration and monitoring tools and be able to give technical advice and guidance.

Infrastructure Technician – Level 3 Apprenticeship

This apprenticeship standard has been retired by the Institute of Apprenticeships & Technical Education, it is no longer eligible for new starts.
